Book Review: In A Dark Dark Wood

Hey,
So it's that time again. It is time for another blog post. So what has happened since the last time I wrote a blog post. A lot has happened. Remember when I wrote about being ill last time, well that illness decided it wanted to become a cough so that stuck around for the last two weeks. Also our family has been struggling with a bereavement this past week so it has also been really hard to move forward. If there are any new readers you may be wondering why I write these blog posts. Well to tell you the truth I write these blogs because it expands my creative writing skills also I have a big passion for all things books. I thought then why not share what I read and think about certain books with the rest of the general public. So that's how this blog was created. Anyway back to this blog post. From the title of this blog post you can already guess what this book is called. But if you haven't read the title yet, this book is called In A Dark Dark Wood and it was written by Ruth Ware.
I would like to take this opportunity to thank all my older readers for their continued support on these blog posts and thank you for returning to read every new post I put up. Welcome to any new readers, if this is your first review of mine you are reading I hope you enjoy it so much that you keep coming back for more. I also wish that all my readers could leave me some sort of feedback in comment section below. So this next part  of my blog post is all about the blurb from the back of the book, some people may also call the blurb a synopsis. In other words the blurb is a small summary of the book. I actually would like to know if people actually like me putting the blurb into this part of my blog posts. I like to put the blurb into my reviews as it gives the reader an insight about the book. Therefore readers will understand the background of the story more. It will also make you decide if you want to go out and buy the book. The blurb is how I mostly get addicted and hooked, to any book without reading it yet. So back to the book, without further delay here is the blurb of this book: "Nora hasn't seen Clare for ten years. Not since the day Nora walked out of her old life and never looked back. Until, out of the blue, an invitation to Clare's hen party arrives. A weekend in a remote cottage - the perfect opportunity for Nora to reconnect with her best friend, to put the past behind her. But something goes wrong. Very wrong. And as secrets and lies unravel, out in the dark, dark wood the past will finally catch up with Nora." If your reading this review just for my opinion and you have already read this book please don't give any spoilers to any readers who have not yet read/completed this book. Sometimes people perfer to look at a picture than reading a blog post. There will be a picture at the end of this paragraph for those to look at the blurb instead.

This paragraph is dedicated to the author of this book. I like to dedicate this paragraph to each author as they spend so much of their time shut away in a office typing at a computer. Just think about how many hours they sit, edit and answer emails from their book management team. Even in Ruth Ware acknowledgements section she writes thank you to her family for letting her tap away in the spare room when her family would so often have rather been doing other things. So in other words I feel like I'm giving them something back to them like dedicating this paragraph to each author. Can you imagine a world without books loads of people would suffer including us bookworms. So here we go here is that information about the author of this book. But I just know some people will skip this part of my blog post. Shame on you!! Ruth Ware grew up in Sussex, on the South coast of England. After graduating from Manchester university (UK) she moved to Paris, before settling in North London. She has worked as a waitress, a bookseller, a teacher of English as a foreign language and a press officer and is the internationally bestselling author of In A Dark Dark Wood (so this book) and The Woman in Cabin 10. She is married with two small children. You can visit her at RuthWare.com
The time has come to give my opinion on this book. I had never read a Ruth Ware book before. But I kept hearing a lot of good things about them. I also kept seeing them on the bestselling book charts. So I thought I would give them a go. I should of started reading them sooner. When I first opened the book and saw that famous quote it instantly put a big smile on my face. I thought then that this is going to be a brilliant book. Just by reading the few chapters. I was not wrong. I was instantly hooked, when I was reading the book I was escaping the real world just for a while. I could not put this book down. When I read the first page I knew I had to read the other chapters just as quickly. Ruth Ware's style of writing was so easy to follow as she starts the book in the future and the second one was written back in the past. It just kept you in suspense every time it switched between the two, which made me love this book even more. I loved this book so much that I finished the book within a week of starting it. The way that Ruth Ware wrote her characters made it more enjoyable and understandable to follow each separate character in the story. I loved every moment of this book. The one thing that I was not expecting was the big reveal at the end of the book. My guess was totally the wrong person. Don't worry I won't give it away. Overall this book has to be one of the best crime novels that I have read this year so far. It has plenty of twists and turns around every corner. I won't be forgetting this book in a hurry. I can't wait to read her other books and to see what she is going to write in the future. Ruth Ware, * high five * !!
I would like to give this book a 10/10 I would totally recommend this book to anyone who loves a awesome crime novel and you are over the age of 16. You can follow all of my other blog posts which can be found at laurennpullennreviews.blogspot.co.uk Where you can follow me, leave questions or even leave your recommendations for me. Thank you again for your continued support. It totally means a lot.

Until my next book review x

Book Review: Strictly Between Us

Hey,
I'm back again. How is everyone feeling? I can tell you one thing, I've been hit with an illness when I was reading this book. So I haven't got this review out as quickly as I've would of wanted. I hope I start to feel better soon. But time doesn't stay still for anyone, so I got on with the reading. I hope you enjoy reading this review. I hate begging/pleading with people but your feedback would be truly valid around here. Even it's on the choice of book that I review each time. Also your recommendations of books, would be welcomed with open arms. All this feedback will help me improve my blog posts, therefore my blog would be better for your viewing. Anyway back to the book I'm reviewing. This book is called, if you haven't already read the title of this blog post. Strictly Between Us. This book was written by Jane Fallon.
I like to take this opportunity to welcome any new readers to these blog posts. Thank you for choosing too read my blog posts. To all my older readers who keep returning to view all my new blog posts, thank you for your continued support it means a lot! This next part of my blog post is going to be about the blurb. The blurb can be found at the back cover of all paper back books. For people who are not familiar with the word blurb, it can also be described as a synopsis. But most people just call it a small written passage. Please let me know if you enjoy the blurb being put into my blog posts. This is part of the feedback that I was mentioning back in the beginning. I like to put the blurb into my blog posts as it gives the reader a better understanding of the background of the story and the blurb is one of the reasons why people get hooked which leads them to go out and buy the book. So without further delay here is the blurb: "Tasmin and her best friend Michelle have been inseparable since they were teenagers. Even now they spend all their time together, along with Patrick, Michelle's perfect husband. "So when Tasmin hears a rumour that Patrick is having an affair, she is incensed. Unwilling to ignore it, she plots a scheme to catch Patrick in the act, using her assistant Bea as live bait. It should be foolproof." "After all, Tasmin can trust Bea with anything. From her daily coffee order to fetching her dry- cleaning, writing reports and doing all the filing - Bea does everything with a smile on her face." "Except Tasmin has never considered Bea might have her own agenda. And if she does, then Tasmin really needs to watch her back..." Some people prefer to look at a picture of the back of the book. You can find that picture at the end of this paragraph. Readers, if you have already read this book, please don't give any spoilers to people who haven't read it yet.

This next paragraph is dedicated to the author who created this book. I love having a paragraph which is dedicated to the author of each book I review. I feel like I am giving something back to them. As they spent so many days sat at a laptop/computer writing which includes the amount of emails that they have read and the amount of times that they have edited and re- read every draft. Without our authors there won't be many books for us bookworms to read. That would make us more unhappy and less inspired by not having our favourite authors around. So this time this paragraph is all about Jane Fallon. Jane Fallon was born in Harrow in North London and later moved out to Buckinghamshire where she attended St. Bernard's Convent School in Slough before moving back up to London to read history at University College. Jane's first real job was working as a 'Girl Friday' in a small Theatrical and Literary Agency. After three years she left to pursue a career in TV, starting as a freelance script reader and then working as a script editor on various shows including EastEnders (a popular show in the UK) where she was made a producer in 1994. The following year she started work producing a new low budget show. Several other shows including 'Teachers' and '20 things to do before you're 30' followed before she suddenly got brave enough to have a go at trying to fulfil her life long ambition to write a novel in 2006. Jane had the idea for Getting Rid of Matthew, one of her first books during one insomniac night and the following day rather prematurely handed in her notice at work giving herself a year to get it published. Thankfully, Penguin picked it up and it went on to be selected for the Richard and Judy Book Club becoming a national bestseller in 2007. Many of her other books have made it onto the bestseller list. Jane's seventh novel, My sweet Revenge was released on 7th January 2017.
It is now time to give my opinion on the book. What can I say... WOW!! This book had me hooked from the moment I read the first page. I throughly enjoyed how the book was set out. It was so easy to follow each character with every chapter I read because of the way Jane Fallon had written this book. I could not put this book down apart from when I got ill in the middle of reading it. As I read each page I couldn't wait to get to the next one as I needed to know what was going to happen next in the story and to my favourite characters. If I could sum up any good chick flic film this book would become your favourite book instantly. This book was divided into different parts which also made it easier to understand the story. The only thing though with me reading it so fast was that when I got to the end of the book I was sad that it was over. People always tell me to slow down when reading a book as I would regret it in the end. But there was no regret at all this time. The one thing I would change if I was the author of this book. I would change the ending just a little bit. I don't want to spoil the ending. I'm sure you would too if you get where I would change it. Overall I loved this book and I can't wait to read her other books and the books that she is going to write in the future!!
I'm going to rate this book a 9/10. I would totally recommend this book to anyone who loves a good read and is over the age of 16. You can find all my other blog posts at              laurennpullennreviews.blogspot.co.uk where you can follow me, leave your recommendations or even ask some questions if you wanted too. Thank you again for choosing to read my blog posts. For that I'm really grateful.

Until my next book review x

Book Review: The Liar's Chair

Hey,
Well I'm back again, so that means it is time for another blog post!! How is everyone doing? Anyone else enjoying this spring weather. Sorry if your in another country and currently going through another season altogether. Well it turns out I now need glasses as my eyes are getting worse as I am reading more and more. You will definitely see more clearer and a difference in your eyes if you need them too, so go and get them checked your eyes that is. Now I can see better, I'm reading even faster than before. Which means I can get these reviews out for you guys to read even quicker. Anyway back to the reason I'm writing this review, the book. This book is called The Liar's Chair if you haven't read the title yet. This book was written by Rebecca Whitney.
I would like to take this time to welcome any new readers and to thank them for choosing to read these blog posts. To all my readers that continue to read these posts from the beginning, thank you for that continued support. It totally means a lot to me. This paragraph is dedicated to the author of a his book as we find out more about them. As they deserve every bit of praise they get. Without authors there won't be any books to read. So this author is called Rebecca Whitney. Rebecca Whitney completed a BA in Creative Arts at Nottingham Trent University (UK) and found much of her art and performance work inspired by the written word. Her other love is film, and on graduating she moved to London where she worked in production, moving up from tea girl to producer and executive producer on music videos and commercials. After returning to Sussex where she'd grown up, her passion for literature was rekindled, and in order to discover if she has a book in her, she completed the Creative Writing Certificate at Sussex University (UK). It was on this course that this book, The Liar's Chair germinated. This book The Liar's Chair was published by Mantle/Pan Macmillan in January 2015. Rebecca is currently working on her second psychological thriller, a standalone book about new motherhood and paranoia. She teaches for Guardian Masterclasses and the Creative Writing Programme in Brighton, as well as writing short stories, plus features for newspapers and magazines.
This next paragraph features the blurb which is just another word for the passage that can be found on the back of each book. It also can be described as a synopsis. I like to put th blurb into my blog posts as it gives you the reader a chance to read the blurb. Then you can see if you want to go out and buy the entire book. Let me know if you enjoy this part of my blog posts! Also by reading the blurb it gives you the reader a better understanding of the book. So here we go, the blurb: "Rachel Teller and her husband David appear happy, prosperous and fulfilled. The big house, the successful business- they have everything. However, control not love, fuels their relationship and David has no idea that his wife indulges in drunken indiscretions. When Rachel kills a man in a hit and run, the meticulously maintained veneer over their life begins to crack. . ." Remember readers if you have read this book. There is a chance you may not be reading this but if you are, please don't give any spoilers about the book. For those who prefer to look at a picture, a picture can be found at the end of this paragraph.

It is time to give my opinion of this book. Where do I start, the cover is a good place as any other. Even though I never judge a book on it's cover. When u first picked up the book it give me a shiver that went down my spine. It definitely has that eerie feeling about it. Once I had started to read it, I was instantly hooked by this authors way of writing. I couldn't put the book down as the book had gripped me so much. As I read each page I really wanted to know what was going to happen on the next page. I read this book within a week of starting it. This book had many twists and turns which I was not expecting. But it also had topics throughout the book which should not be taken lightly, it definitely pulls on the heart strings. But the way in which Rebecca wrote this book it made this book storyline more understandable and the characters were easy enough to follow. I  throughly enjoyed this book. This book definitely needs a follow on to carry on story. I need to know what happens to Rachel and David. I can't wait to see what Rebecca writes in the future!!
This book is going to get a 8/10. I would also like to recommend this book to anyone who loves a awesome thriller. This book is not suitable for younger readers as some parts are not meant to be read by them. You can find all my blog posts at laurennpullennreviews.blogspot.co.uk where you can follow me or leave your questions in the comment boxes below each post. Thank you again for reading these posts!!
