Book Review: The Well

Hey,
To all my lovely readers. So it is a new month. A new month brings many new things. For an example new readers and some more book blog posts. Like this one, this review is all about The Well by Catherine Chanter. So sit back and enjoy this brand new book blog post.
I'm sure by know most people/readers know what happens at this part. This is for all the new readers. This next paragraph is dedicated to the author who wrote the book I'm reviewing. If you don't want to know more about the author. I give you the reader permission to skip to the next part. But If you do want to know. Here is the information you want, Catherine Chanter was born and raised in the West Country. For people who don't know that's the west of the UK. Catherine has a Masters with distinction, in Creative Writing from Oxford Brookes University. Catherine has won many awards including Huffington Post One to Watch in 2015. The Well is her first novel.
For most people, they like to read the back of the book in other words the blurb. This part of my book review. Where I like to tell the reader some more information or background story of the book. So that they know what they are buying into. This is what you need to know "When Ruth Ardingly and her family first drive up from London in their grime - encrusted car and view The Well, they are enchanted by a jewel of a place, a farm that appears to offer everything the family are searching for. An opportunity for Ruth. An escape for Mark. A home for their grandson Lucien." "As The Well envelops them, Ruth's paradise becomes a prison, Mark's dream a recurring nightmare and Lucien's playground a grave." That's all I'm giving you, my readers as people don't like big spoilers. As then you don't have a reason to buy the book as you know what's going to happen throughout the book. That is not fun.
After reading all that information. It's time to give my opinion on this book. When I first saw the book I was drawn in by the cover, as it gives you that mystery feeling and you want to know more. Well done to whoever designed it. I eventually sat down to read this book. I took my time reading the first couple of chapters. I enjoyed the first chapter as it set the scene. But as I got further into the book it lost me a little more each time. I found myself re-reading sentences. I felt more confused each time I re-read the sentence. Maybe if the font size inside the book was a bit bigger. When the book picked up the pace I found myself reading the book more often and finishing each page quicker. I wanted to know what was lying in the next chapter. When I got towards the end of the book I didn't expect that ending and the events that lead up to it. That changed my opinion on the book. It was great even if it did take me a bit longer to read than my other books. Can't wait to see what she writes next.
I would give this book a 7/10. I would also recommend this book to older readers. As it is classed as adult fiction and has some swear words on the inside. If you wish to read the many other blog posts, I have done. You can read them at laurennpullennreviews.blogspot.com You can also follow me to stay updated on when I write new blog posts.
