Book Review: The Drowning Lesson

Hey,
So here we again. Welcome back another one of my book blog posts. How are you? How's your weekend going? I read it his book rather fast, so that's why you are getting this review quicker than the ones before it. I also like the fact that it is still winter, it gives me a lot excuse to stay inside and read all the books that I possibly can! What are you guys currently reading? Anyway back to this review. This review blog post is all about, if you can't guess from the title: The Drowning Lesson written by Jane Shemilt.
Like all my other blog posts, I take this time or opportunity to welcome any new new readers too my blog posts. I want to mix up my blog posts from time to time. So this time I'm going to put the part about the author first this time because if you have the same thing again and again it can become boring and I don't want that. But not only that I don't want reading to be associated with being boring either. I put this part into my blogs as I like to get to know each author better as they have spent so many hours writing these books for our entertainment! So here we go. While working as a G.P ( A doctor) Jane Shemilt completed a post- graduate diploma in creative writing at Bristol University and went on to study for the MA in creative writing at Bath Spa, gaining both with distinction. She was shortlisted for the Janklow and Nesbit award and the Lucy Cavendish fiction prize for Daughter, her first novel. Daughter was a Sunday Times bestseller and was selected for the autumn 2014 Richard and Judy Book Club as well as winning the public vote for Best Read. It was 2014's bestselling fiction debut. She and her husband, a professor of Neurosurgery, have five children and live in Bristol, England (UK).
This next part of my book blog post is taken from the blurb that can be found at the back of each book in other words the big paragraph of words on the back. I put this into my blog posts, as it gives each person who wants to buy this book a chance to read the blurb. Here we go: " our home is a crime scene now. I am in yesterday's clothes. The clothes in which I kissed Sam goodbye. Then he'd belonged only to us. Now his image will be shared with the world. We should be grateful. "Our son...Sam... My eyes fill with tears, the writing on the paper blurs. Someone took him. Please help us... I back away from the microphone, the paper falls from my hands." The Anniversary "The Jordan family thought they would return from their gap year abroad enriched, better people, a closer family. Not minus one child. A year on, Emma remains haunted by the image of that empty cot, thousands of miles away, the chasm between her and the rest of the family growing with each day that Sam remains missing. Is her son still out there? Will the mystery about what happened that night ever be unravelled?"  To anyone who has already read this book. You may not be reading this blog post but if you have read to this part, remember don't go giving any spoilers to those who haven't read it yet. Some people prefer to look at a picture. So here is a picture of the back of the book as well.

I hope your enjoying this blog post so far. It is now time for my opinion. Where do I start... I guess the first thing is the is the book cover it just gives off a eerie feeling with the droplets falling down and the empty paper boat. By just looking at it I knew I had to read it. When I read the first chapter, it felt out of place. But once I kept on reading it made perfect sense. I loved how each page kept you guessing on what was going to happen on the next page. I just couldn't put the book down, as I was enjoying it that much. In fact the only time I put it down was when I went to sleep. I also loved how each chapter went from the present to the future. It just kept me, the reader on my toes. Especially as I'm loving crime fiction at the moment. It was full of suspense. If you have read this one, you have too read the first one as well. Tell you one thing I did not expect was the ending. When I found out who the person who committed the crime was I actually took in a big gasp of air. I throughly enjoyed reading this book and I can't wait to see what she writes in the future.
I would give this book a solid 10/10. I recommend this book to people who are 16 and over and love a mystery/crime fiction book.  Until my next book review x
